CII - SIDM & Navy Symposium on Corrosion Management
CII & SIDM in association with INS Vishwakarma are organising a 'Symposium on Corrosion Management' on 6th & 7th December 2018 at INS Vishwakarma, Visakhapatnam.
Corrosion, the hidden menace, is present in all marine assets and the battle against corrosion is a 24X7 activity. The issue assumes higher significance in case of warships and submarines due to a high density of equipment and difficult access for maintenance. The renewal of degraded structures is an extremely complex activity involving high costs and added downtime of the weapon platforms.
Indian Navy has grown from “Brown Water to a Blue Water” Navy and is continuously adding state-of-the-art indigenous warships and submarines to its fleet. Further, in this era of 'Mission Based Deployments,’ it is imperative that the IN platforms are installed with cutting-edge anti-corrosive materials and systems which facilitate maximum time on task.
INS Vishwakarma is a premier training establishment of the Indian Navy, located at Visakhapatnam. It is an alma-mater to Naval Constructor officers and Hull Artificer sailors and trains them on aspects of design, construction, quality assurance as well as hull maintenance of Indian Navy Ships / Submarines.
The Symposium on `Corrosion Management’ comprising of a Seminar and an Exhibition has been jointly organised by INS Vishwakarma and CII & SIDM ( Confederation of Indian Industry & Society Indian Defence Manufactures ) to identify new processes, materials, and systems to further enhance the corrosion protection of IN Platforms. This will act as a platform for vibrant discussions and exchange of ideas on shipbuilding and maintenance related issues. Senior dignitaries & officials from Indian Navy, Industry, R& D Institutes & Academia will be attending the seminar cum exhibition.
The Symposium will address on the following topics on 6th December 2018:-
(a) Trends in corrosion management
(b) Developments in surface engineering and coatings for marine purposes
(c) Advancements in Cathodic protection
(d) Challenges in shipboard hull maintenance
(e) Metallurgical advancements in shipbuilding material
(f) Modern Corrosion Testing Methods
(g) Bridging gap between technological advancements and current work practices in Corrosion Prevention
This is a great opportunity for Industry to demonstrate their capability, development & indigenisation by taking part in the product display. Display of these products will not only benefit the wider audience participating in the symposium but could also lead to the induction of these into Indian Navy if found suitable.
Relevant Industry is requested to participate in the exhibition and display their latest products and get visibility in front of the end-user.
