SIDM Combat Engineering (CE) Conclave
Looking at the prevailing threat situation from neighbouring countries to India, requirement of quick movement of troops and mobility of resources in the warfare is of utmost importance. The war fighter can operate efficiently and maintain momentum in battlefield when seamless manoeuvrability is ensured by Combat Engineers. This faster troop movement may pose a big challenge to Armed Forces and needs to be addressed adequately.
India has significant achievements in the indigenisation of critical Combat Engineering Systems such as Military Bridging Systems, Earth moving equipment, and Mining and Demining equipment, etc. DRDO has, over the years, developed multiple systems for exploitation by the Combat Engineering arm of the Indian Army. Few of these have already been inducted, and others are in various stages of realisation for induction in the near term. While these ‘Make in India’ equipment / solutions of contemporary technologies, have aided the Indian Armed Forces in their missions of critical & strategic Combat Engineering operations, it also has contributed in developing a strong indigenous supply chain comprising of SME / MSME entities driven by entrepreneurship and innovation.
However, given the huge requirement of the armed forces of the India and Globe, a lot more needs to be done to provide futuristic and reliable system to our Armed forces and export the indigenous CE Systems. The government has taken several steps in the recent past to promote the indigenous development and to focus on enhancing the exports under the ‘AatmaNirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’.
Against this background, SIDM is organising a one-day virtual webinar on ‘Combat Engineering’ on 5 November 2020. The conclave will deliberate on the theme with the view to understanding potential solutions that can aid in the future theatres of operation and augment the exports of the indigenously developed CE Systems.
